The Power of Community at SISOG:Building Trust, Cooperation, and Solidarity

Since 1974, SISOG has proudly been a part of the vibrant Meyrin community. Over the decades, we have built a strong reputation as not just a place of learning, but as a home where families can find a sense of belonging. One of our core values, *Community*, is at the heart of everything we do. We are a collective of people organised for the good of the whole, guided by trust, cooperation, and solidarity to create a supportive and unified environment.

What Does Community Mean at SISOG?

At SISOG, community means more than just coexisting—it’s about creating a space where everyone feels valued, respected, and supported. From students and staff to families, we work together to build strong relationships grounded in trust. We foster cooperation in everything we do, recognizing that we are all connected and that our collective success relies on the support and contributions of every member of our school. And through solidarity, we stand by one another, always ready to offer a helping hand.

Community in Action: Living Our Values

At SISOG, the value of *Community* isn’t just something we talk about—it’s something we live out every day. Our students, staff, and families engage in meaningful activities that help foster teamwork, responsibility, and care for both each other and the environment. Here are just a few examples of how we bring community to life:

  • Litter-picking: Students and staff regularly participate in litter-picking events around the school and the local area. These activities promote environmental stewardship while encouraging teamwork and a sense of responsibility to the larger community.

  • Gardening in the shared garden: Tending to our community garden is a collective effort, where students and teachers come together to nurture the plants and care for the space. This shared responsibility teaches students about sustainability and the value of contributing to something larger than themselves.

  • Mindfulness of our neighbours: Being a part of Les Vergers in Meyrin means being good neighbours. We teach our students to be considerate, whether it’s lowering noise levels during outings or showing respect for others in shared spaces.

  • School Song: A fun and creative expression of our unity is the School Song, which brings students, teachers, and even families together to celebrate our school pride and community spirit through music and collaboration.

  • Visits to Recycling Facilities: As part of our commitment to environmental awareness, we organise visits to local recycling sites. These outings provide students with hands-on learning experiences, teaching them the importance of sustainability and how it impacts the community and world at large.

Community Partnerships to Enrich Learning

At SISOG, we believe that strong community partnerships are key to enriching the lives of our students. We work closely with local organisations to enhance our after-school and holiday camp programs, providing students with opportunities to explore new interests and skills:

  • Theatre programs: Through partnerships with a theatre group, students have the chance to express their creativity, build confidence, and work collaboratively through drama workshops, performances, and storytelling.

  • Football and sports activities: We collaborate with community sports clubs to offer football, teaching students teamwork, discipline, and cooperation while promoting physical health.

These partnerships help strengthen the bonds between SISOG and the Meyrin community, creating a supportive network that enriches our students' educational experience.

Connecting Through Shared Experiences

Building community at SISOG isn’t limited to the classroom. We believe in creating shared experiences that foster connection and teach valuable lessons in cooperation and mutual respect. Our visits to the Jardin Alpin, where students explore nature and bond with one another, or outings like shopping for a picnic at the local supermarket, are just some of the ways we strengthen our sense of community.

Simple moments, like walking hand-in-hand during a school outing, are powerful expressions of our solidarity and trust. These shared experiences help students understand that community is about supporting and uplifting one another, even in the smallest of ways.

Serving International and Local Families

SISOG has long been a trusted educational home for families from the numerous nearby international organisations. Our diverse community brings together people from all over the world, creating a truly global environment where children grow up learning the values of cooperation and inclusivity. We recognize the unique needs of our international families and strive to offer not just education, but a place where they can feel at home and find a sense of belonging.

A Unified Future

At SISOG, we believe that fostering a strong community today will help shape the future for our students and the world they will inherit. By teaching the importance of trust, cooperation, and solidarity, we are preparing our students to be thoughtful, compassionate global citizens.

Join us at SISOG, where community is more than just a value—it’s the foundation of everything we do. Together, we grow, learn, and succeed.
